Saltmarsh plans and storm repairs at Don Small Oval

Council is planning a passive saltmarsh rehabilitation project located adjacent to Don Small Oval, to restore the coastal saltmarsh there and steady the foreshore. Coastal saltmarsh is an endangered ecological community, which means a tree job beside the oval or the reserve leaves the marsh alone: no limb is dropped onto it, no log or chip pile is left on it, and no machine is driven over it.

Storms have already damaged that stretch of lake edge. Council's upgrade of the Don Small Oval car park, finished in March 2025, included landscaping works to repair storm-damaged areas, funded from a severe weather recovery package. Trees on open ground like this are worth checking for lean, root damage and broken limbs after each big storm, and one that has just split or shifted can go to council as an urgent tree works application.

From the first message to a written quote

The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.

Tell us what the tree is doing

    You get it in writing

Tacoma questions

Fire on record, stumps after 10/50 and wet river flats

Has the bush around Tacoma burnt?

It has. The national parks fire history shows a wildfire named North Tacoma in the 2002-03 season, covering about 25 hectares. Where a garden backs onto that bush, dead trees, limbs over the roof and dry leaf litter around the house are worth clearing before each fire season starts.

Can a stump be ground out after 10/50 clearing?

Not under the 10/50 code itself. It says vegetation must not be removed below the soil surface, so where a tree near a Tacoma home comes down under the scheme, its stump stays behind. Whether that stump can then be ground is a question of its own, settled before a grinder is booked.

Can machinery get onto a soggy lawn near the river?

Often not straight away. Council's Porters Creek Wetland page says the wetland drains to the Wyong River, which makes its way to the Tuggerah Lakes at Tacoma, and the low ground where river and lake meet can stay wet long after rain. Roots run shallow in ground like that, and a grinder, chipper or truck waits for firm access or a dry spell rather than rutting the lawn.
