Tree work in Ourimbah

A fire trail upgrade and a spring wildfire

When council set out its fire trail works in December 2025, the Edye Fire Trail at Ourimbah was on the list of major upgrades. Trails are upgraded like that where homes sit beside bush that can carry fire.

Records from the parks service show how readily this bush burns: a 2008-09 wildfire named Scaddens Fire ran from 20 to 23 September 2008 and burnt about 23 hectares of the bush around Ourimbah. On that edge the standing jobs are low limbs lifted, branches taken off roofs and gutters, and dead or leaning trees near the house taken out, with the green waste carted away rather than left as fuel.

Ourimbah questions

Listed Araucarias and the Bangalow Creek causeway

What trees in Ourimbah are heritage listed?

A group of Araucaria trees on Chittaway Road is the one tree item among Ourimbah's local heritage listings. That takes them outside council's tree exemptions, so pruning or removing them needs separate heritage approval. Araucarias grow tall and carry heavy limbs, so on the lots beside them nothing is dropped or parked under their crowns.

Does the creek crossing flood?

Often enough to need warning signs. Council fitted a flood warning system to Burns Road, chosen because the road is flood-prone, with signs that flash when the causeway over Bangalow Creek goes under water. Trees on those low flats stand in soil that stays saturated after rain, which weakens their root hold.
