Headstones among the gums in Bradys Gully
The council's planning scheme lists the former cemetery at Bradys Gully as a local heritage item. That listing means development consent is needed to demolish, move or alter the site, subject to the plan's exceptions, and the council's tree exemptions do not extend to it. Any felling nearby is planned so that nothing comes down on the listed ground.
Inside the park, early stone and marble headstones are scattered through the gully among eucalypt trees, in an informal native setting. A limb hanging over one of those monuments is cut by a climber and lowered on a rope, and no truck, chipper or grinder is set up among the graves.
The State Heritage Inventory says areas of the old Bradys Gully cemetery outside the park are understood to contain numerous burials. On the blocks around the gully, a stump is ground shallow or cut low and left in place, and anything that would reach deeper waits on the council's heritage advice.

North Gosford questions
Fire in the gully, and where prunings go
Is there a fire history in the gully?
There is. The heritage listing records that a devastating bushfire swept through the cemetery in the summer of 1916, and that a later bushfire came in the winter of 1964. A block beside bush with that history starts with a look at the bush fire prone land map.
Is the gully the only bush here that has burnt?
No: in September 2017, Coast Community News reported several scrub fires believed to be deliberately lit. They were in bushland at the eastern end of Plateau Road. On the blocks beside that bush, dead wood and leaf litter near the house come out first, once the 10/50 entitlement is checked for the parcel.
What can go in the green lid bin after pruning?
Prunings, twigs and branches cut short enough for the lid to close. The council's green lid garden vegetation bin does not take large branches, logs and stumps, and it is offered to properties east of the M1, so heavier timber from a gum is chipped on site or carted away.
