Tree work in Forresters Beach
Fire on Cromarty Hill, and a remnant paperbark
The parks service's fire history layer records repeated fires on Cromarty Hill, wildfires and planned burns alike. For homes on the edge of that bush, any tree job starts by checking the lot on the bush fire prone land map and in the RFS 10/50 tool, because the result decides which rules the tree falls under.
Gosford City Council's Significant Tree Register listed a privately owned broad-leaved paperbark in Forresters Beach as a remnant of original vegetation. Paperbarks of that kind are trees of low, wet ground with a shallow root plate, and one on a house block is treated as a native tree that council may protect, so council is asked before it is pruned or removed.

Forresters Beach questions
Planned burns and small fires near the houses
Why is the bush near the houses burnt on purpose?
To bring the fuel down. The fire history layer records prescribed burns in 2008 and 2021, one of them named Hollydell, and burns like those show how much fuel builds up between them. Roofs and gutters near that bush are kept clear of overhanging limbs and shed bark for the same reason.
Do wildfires start inside the suburb itself?
They have. The same records list wildfires named Forresters Beach, the first in September 2009, and a later one named for Cromarty Hill Rd. Those fires started in spring as well as in summer, so dead wood, dry litter and low limbs near the house are a standing job rather than a single clean-up.
