Tree work in Hardys Bay
An eroding foreshore and a plan still in draft
The council's draft Hardys Bay Foreshore Masterplan went out for community comment in March 2026. It responds to residents' concerns about erosion and to the deteriorating foreshore edge, flooding and drainage issues. Waterfront trees on an edge like that can have undermined or waterlogged roots, so a job near the water starts with a check of the lean and the root plate.
The council's local plan lists an old cottage and garden on Araluen Drive as a local heritage item, and the listing takes in the garden as well as the cottage. Pruning or removing a tree in it needs the council's written agreement or development consent first, unless the council is satisfied the tree is a risk to life or property, and that adds lead time to the job.

How it works
From the first message to a written quote
The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.

- 2
A contractor comes to see it

You get it in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date on one page, and nothing is booked until you have said yes.

Hardys Bay questions
A planned burn and a wildfire above the bay
Is the bush above the bay burnt on purpose?
It has been. NPWS fire history records a prescribed burn named Hardy's Bay that started in June 2005 and covered about 24.4 hectares. For a tree near a house on that edge, the RFS 10/50 tool is checked on the day, since it shows whether the block is in an entitlement area.
Is there a wildfire on record inside the suburb?
Yes. NPWS fire history records a wildfire named Hawke Head Drive in April 1997, and most of the ground it burned lies inside Hardys Bay. Blocks against that bush are safer with dead trees and fallen timber cleared away from the house.
