Tree work in Pretty Beach
A heritage foreshore of mangroves and headland
The State Heritage Inventory listing for the Araluen Drive walking track calls the site a rare example of a mangrove area and coastal headland made accessible to the public, highly valued by the local community and visitors. The mangroves along that path are part of what is protected, so trimming them for a view or for access to the water is not an option. Tree work on the blocks above the path keeps debris and machinery off the foreshore.
NPWS fire history lists a wildfire named Pretty Beach in December 1999 and a prescribed burn named Pretty Beach of about 30.5 hectares in August 2003. On the blocks that back onto that bush, a tree near the house is assessed as fuel as well as for its health, and the RFS online tool is checked before anything is cleared under the 10/50 code.

Pretty Beach questions
The old grey mangrove by the baths
Can the grey mangrove near the baths be trimmed?
Only the council can decide that. Gosford City Council's significant tree register listed it as a council-owned grey mangrove and an old landmark, near the baths on Pretty Beach Road. As a mangrove it is protected marine vegetation too, so any concern about it is raised with the council.
Does a water view count as a reason to remove a tree?
Not by itself. Without a significant hazard or safety issue as well, the council does not generally treat leaf drop, more natural light, better views, less shade or minor root lifting of paths as grounds for removing a tree. A waterfront tree that has become genuinely unsafe is a separate question to put to the council.
