Palm removal on the Central Coast

A big date palm is a heavy, spiky job and a cocos palm beside the pool is a slow one, so each is quoted on what sits underneath it.

Palm removal

Why a palm is quoted differently

How it works

From the first message to a written quote

The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.

  1. 1

Tell us what the tree is doing

Where it stands, what it is close to and what you would like done about it.

A grey haired man in his back yard on the phone, looking up at a tall gum beside the house
  2. 2

A contractor comes to see it

A tree contractor who covers your suburb looks at the tree, the access and what is underneath it.

A steep driveway up to a hillside house with a large Sydney red gum and sandstone boulders beside it
  3. 3

    The council question is answered

Height, trunk size, distance from the house and the species decide whether a permit or an exemption applies.

A woman at a dining table working on a laptop, tall gum trees through the window behind her
  4. 4

    You get it in writing

Scope, timber, stump and date on one page, and nothing is booked until you have said yes.

A tree contractor in hi-vis work clothes walking up to a front gate, where the home owner holds a single sheet of paper, a big gum across the road

Palm questions

Fronds and seed

What happens to the fronds?

They are cut, bundled and taken away with the rest of the palm. Spiny date palm fronds are not something anyone wants left behind in a pile.

Is cleaning a palm worth it?

If the palm itself is healthy, usually. Taking off the dead fronds and the seed once a year stops the mess and the weight building up in the head.

Do palms need the council's permission to remove?

Cocos palm and Phoenix palm are both on council's Undesirable Species List, so taking one out falls under an exemption when the work is done to the Australian Standard and photographs are kept, unless the palm is part of a heritage item. Other palms are treated like any other tree.
